In the next few days, the oscillation of the trough will take place which will shift inside across the Southern Peninsula. Is Bangalore’s pleasant weather title in danger?

Is Bangalore’s pleasant weather title in danger?April begins on a hot note in both Delhi and Mumbai. Several parts of the country witness hot and uncomfortable weather conditions. When it comes to being hot and humid, Kolkata is no better. However, there’s always been that city where one could blindly turn to, for a pleasant weather, and that's none other than Bangalore or Bengaluru. While air conditioners became a bare necessity in both the national and commercial capital of the country as soon as summer gave a sneak peek, Bangalore continued to be the envy of every eye that resided in Delhi or Mumbai. However, weather in Bangalore has taken an unusual and an unexpected turn. Of late, temperatures have only been on the rise. Pre-Monsoon showers have remained absent from the silicon city for quite some time now. Usually, after a few warm days in Bangalore, rain gods would be kind enough to bestow some kindness in the form of good showers. While the weather in Bangalore was once compared to the weather of the hills, the current temperatures have a different story to tell. March in 2015 was comparatively less warm than this year. Maximums have been well above the normal levels throughout the month of March. April has turned out to be even worse; maximums have during most days remained above the 35-degree mark. During the last two days, temperatures have been recorded as high as 37 degrees. While summer like conditions crept in during the end of March, this year the final week of February witnessed record-breaking temperatures. On February 22, the city recorded 35.5 degree Celsius, which happens to be the highest in more than a decade. With less humidity, cloud build up is highly unlikely. Thus, with no rain in sight, weather conditions are likely to remain about just the same for the next few days in Bangalore. Unfortunately, for those who considered Bangalore to be their pleasant metropolitan retreat, the crown of the city seems to be on shaking ground. And, sadly, the pleasant weather title has suddenly transformed into ‘hot as hell’. If you were about to book your tickets for some relief from the scorching summer heat, it is high time you reconsider your decision. Image Credit: thehindu.com

Bangalore isn’t pleasant anymore, sizzles with highest maximum in a decade

Bangalore isn’t pleasant anymore, sizzles with highest maximum in a decadeBangalore weather has only been disappointing during the last few days. Not only has it been unbearably hot due to the absence of rain, but the silicon city has also set a new record as far as high temperatures are concerned. Now, Bangalore has recorded its maximum as 37.8 degree Celsius, which happens to be the highest in a decade. Before this, the temperature had touched 37.5 degrees on April 16, but it was still a notch less than the hottest day in the last ten years. The average maximum for Bangalore during the month of April is 34.1 degree Celsius, but usually, temperatures do not go as high as 37 degree Celsius. This year, conditions have worsened. Since April 11, maximums have been hovering between 36 and 37 degrees. The record for the highest maximum stands at 38.3 degree Celsius, which has been registered on April 30, 1931. This maximum is a mere 0.5 degrees below the temperature recorded yesterday. Thus, if the situation persists, Bangalore may be able to surpass the record soon. And with 12 more days left in April, it seems like a 70-year record may just be broken. While a trough is extending from Maharashtra to South Tamil Nadu across Interior Karnataka, rains have remained absent in Bangalore due to insufficient moisture. Thus, rain is highly unlikely in Bangalore, which may make the situation even worse. The once pleasant Bangalore weather is officially hot now. Image Credit: thenewsminute.com

Blistering Bangalore may receive thunderstorm

Blistering Bangalore may receive thunderstormExtremely hot weather conditions continue to make life miserable for residents of Bangalore. The city has been observing above normal temperatures for quite some time now. So much so that Bangalore recorded its highest maximum in a decade on April 17 at 37.8 degree Celsius. While temperatures have not crossed the 38-degree mark yet, maximums continue to be well above average levels. The last time the city received any rain was on April 7 and that too a mere 0.3 mm. Since then Bangalore remains rain hungry as temperatures are only increasing each day. At present, a cyclonic circulation can be seen over North Interior Karnataka. Also, a trough is extending up to Tamil Nadu across South Interior Karnataka. The combined effect of these systems may receive some thunderstorm activity during the next 48 hours. Currently, moist winds from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are reaching South Interior Karnataka including Bangalore, Mysore and its neighbouring areas. Due to increase in moisture, conditions have become favourable for the development of thundery clouds over the region. Thus, there are chances of Bangalore receiving light thunderstorm activity during the next two days. Also, while most of the times these clouds only result in light thunderstorm activity, sometimes, these events sometimes result in light rain as well. Image Credit: weather-forecast.com

Rain in Bangalore

Rain in BangaloreAs reiterated by Skymet Weather, Bangalore has finally recorded traces of rain and thundershowers on Friday evening. However, the spell has failed to bring any respite from hot weather conditions prevailing over the city for last many days. Though, city has recorded drop in maximum temperature by one degree but we expect it to increase again on Saturday. At 10:30 am, mercury had already reached 35°C and we expect maximum temperature to settle around 37°C or above. On Friday, Bangalore had recorded day maximum of 36.5°C, which was three degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures was also three degrees above normal at 25.4°C. According to Skymet Weather, slight drop in temperature was due to the cloudy sky on account of a north-south trough extending from North Interior Karnataka up to Comorin are across interiors of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This trough is a semi-permanent feature during pre-Monsoon season, which keeps oscillating from east to west and vice-versa. Also read: Is Bangalore's pleasant weather title in danger? With trough likely to shift further eastwards, isolated rain and thundershowers are expected once again on April 25. This April, Bangalore has been witnessing abnormally high day temperatures. The city which is famous for its pleasant weather is reeling under harsh summer conditions in absence of any significant weather activity. City has remained practically dry since April 10. So far, it has recorded mere 5 mm of rain against the monthly average rainfall of 40 mm. Image credit: abhinavrm.wordpress.com

Bangalore gets excruciatingly hot, broils at 38 degrees

Bangalore gets excruciatingly hot, broils at 38 degreesBangalore has lost its pleasant weather crown. The city that was bearable during the summer season has unfortunately become blazing hot now. Days have become hotter and nights have become surprisingly uncomfortable. The silicon city had already broken its highest record in a decade just a few days ago. It seems like that wasn’t enough. Now, Bangalore has even surpassed its April 2016 record and sizzles at a whopping 38 degrees. If the situation persists, the city may surpass its record of 38.3 degrees which has been registered on April 30, 1931. Light thunderstorms and thundershowers did affect the region for two consecutive nights. However, the mercury seemed unaffected. In fact, the maximums only moved a notch up. So much so that the city has been observing its maximum above the 36-degree mark for the past ten days. While the monthly rainfall for Bangalore stands at 40 mm, the city has only recorded 5 mm. In fact, no significant weather activity has taken place in Bangalore since April 10. During the next 2 to 3 days, light thunderstorm activity may affect Bangalore due to the trough which is currently running from Telangana up to South Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Also, most of the times these clouds only result in light thunderstorm activity, sometimes, these events lead to light rain. But, the temperatures will not be much affected by these weather activities. Bangalore will continue to broil at least throughout the month of April. Image Credit: straitstimes.com

Bangalore is ablaze at 39.2 degrees, breaks 85 year old record

Bangalore is ablaze at 39.2 degrees, breaks 85 year old recordBangalore weather has not been on its best behavior for the past few days. Rains have not made a significant appearance, and the mercury is only increasing each day. While we may have thought that soon Bangalore may end up getting its pleasant weather crown back, but it seems like there is trouble in paradise. Now, the city with not so nice weather has broken all records. Believe it or not, the silicon city has become even hotter. On April 24, Bangalore recorded 39.2 degrees as its maximum which is 5 degrees above normal. So much so that the record of 38.3 degrees has been surpassed. The worst part is that the 38.3°C record was set on April 30, 1931. This means that an 85-year-old heat record has been broken by Bangalore. The year 2016 has not brought any good news for the residents of Bangalore as far as weather is concerned. Temperatures may witness a slight rise even further during the next 48 hours. While light thunderstorm is expected today over isolated pockets, this weather event will provide no relief from the present conditions. Also, temperatures may witness a further rise between April 27 and 30. Pre-Monsoon showers will only make an appearance during the first week of May. Till then, Bangalore will continue to broil with extremely high maximums. Image Credit: kshatriyakomarpanth.com

Thundershowers in Bangalore provide temporal relief

Thundershowers in Bangalore provide temporal relief Bangalore has been reeling under extremely hot weather conditions. Temperatures have been on a constant rise wreaking havoc over the residents of the silicon city. While it seemed like rain gods were a little too miffed with Bangalore, things have taken a fortunate turn. After witnessing the highest maximum ever, thundershowers in some parts of Bangalore have provided temporal relief from the scorching conditions. As reiterated by Skymet, thunderstorm activity will continue to affect Bangalore during the next few days as the trough is oscillating around Bangalore. With light thundershowers lashing the city, social media portals were flooded with images and videos of rain in hot and parched Bangalore. These Pre-Monsoon showers have a short life span ranging from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. While it may seem like the wrath of nature has finally come to an end, these thundershowers will only bring in relief for a short duration. Whenever a thundershower activity occurs during the afternoon, temperatures drop by 3 to 4 degrees, and the minimums of that particular night witnesses a drop. The maximum also witnesses a marginal drop. However, the temperatures will only witness a significant drop in Bangalore when Pre-Monsoon showers lash Bangalore for a longer duration. For now, April will continue to remain hot and occasional localized thunderstorm activity may occur over isolated pockets of the city. Come May and conditions will improve significantly. The first week of May is likely to witness some rains with both maximums and minimums witnessing a drop. For now, maximums will continue to range between 37 and 39 degrees. Good showers in Bangalore, a momentary blessing in disguise

Good showers in Bangalore, a momentary blessing in disguiseExtremely hot weather conditions had been wreaking havoc over the residents of Bangalore. The once pleasant city had lost its old charm as scorching summer heat continued to cause trouble in the silicon city of India. So much so that Bangalore broke its record of 38.3 degree Celsius, which was registered some 85 years ago. Since then, the city had never observed such high temperatures. However, on April 24 Bangalore recorded a whopping 39.2 degrees. The residents of Bangalore had had enough. They desperately needed the rain gods to have some pity on them and give some rain over the parched city. Fortunately, their prayers were answered. At around 3 pm, rain gods finally bestowed some kindness on the rain hungry residents. At around 3:30 pm, good showers began to lash Bangalore. The activity continued till the evening hours. Thus, a pleasant evening was back with a bang in the capital city of Karnataka. The city recorded 21 mm of rain during this period. The last time Bangalore received good showers were on March 16 when 16 mm rainfall was recorded. Thus after a good one month, moderate rainfall activity has been observed in Bangalore. Not only did these rains result in a drop of minimums but the maximum temperature also witnessed a drop of more than two degrees. On April 25, the maximum dropped to 37.1 degree Celsius. While you may think that the pleasant Bangalore is back in the game but unfortunately, the temperatures will witness a rise once again. Days will become hot again, and minimums will also witness a marginal rise. Usually, Bangalore witnesses more intense Pre-Monsoon showers during the month of May. Thus remaining days of April will observe a rising trend in temperatures. Image Credit: Aashwin Jain (Twitter)

weather in Bangalore

weather in BangaloreAfter witnessing blazing heat, change in weather conditions have brought some relief for the people of Bangalore. This April has been unusually hot for the city which is famous for its pleasant weather round the year. Day temperatures have been settling above normal by 4-5 degrees on most of the occasions. On April 24, Bangalore recorded 39.2°C which was record of all time high. Thereafter on April 25 afternoon, moderate thundershowers were recorded over several parts of Bangalore leading to drop in maximum temperatures. The temperature is now around 35°C which is just one degree above normal. At present, day maximums are settling near normal. Now we expect mainly dry weather conditions during next 3-4 days with day temperatures above normal merely by one or two degrees. However, isolated thunderstorm activity cannot be ruled out over some pockets of the city on account of wind discontinuity over the region. But chances of any rain are very rare. Pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers are likely to pick up pace during the first week of May, giving considerable amount of relief from exceptionally high day temperatures. May is likely to perform better than month of April. Image credit: www.bangalorebest.com

Temperatures have been sky high, throwing life out of gear in the silicon valley of India. So much so that on April 24, Bangalore recorded its highest maximum ever during the month of April. Rains have remained almost absent from Bangalore. While the city received 21 mm rain on April 25 and 5 mm on April 5, these rains were not intense enough to bring down the maximums and minimums for a prolonged period. However, now things are about to take a fortunate turn for the residents residing in blazing Bangalore. The sizzling capital is all set to become pleasant again. rainBangalore weather has turned pleasant once again. As reiterated by Skymet, the silicon city which was reeling under scorching conditions has finally received its first spell of Pre-Monsoon showers during the month of May. A few convective clouds developed over Bangalore resulting in light drizzle over some parts of the city. These rains are a result of the wind discontinuity which is presently seen from Vidarbha to Tamil Nadu across South Interior Karnataka passing close to Bangalore. This spell has taken social media by storm as the residents of Bangalore were desperately waiting for some relief from the scorching summer heat. As convective clouds are on the horizon, short spells of thundershowers are likely to be observed in several parts of the capital city of Karnataka for the next few hours. However, for the ones worrying about the nail-biting contest between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium can take a deep breath. The rains are likely to stop before the commencement of the game. However, the possibility of a spell in between cannot be ruled out. A few spells of thundershowers can also take place during the late night and early morning hours. On and off Pre-Monsoon showers will continue until May 7. Thus, the residents can heave a sigh of relief for at least some time. Image Credit: comunidaddelanilloverde.wordpress.com

Beng weather

Beng weather mainThe pleasant Bangalore weather had transformed into a hot and uncomfortable one. So much so that the dusted air conditioners and coolers were put to use. People had ditched their two-wheelers and began to use four wheelers even for shorter distances to save themselves from blistering conditions. Things had taken an unfortunate turn. Finally, all the prayers were answered, rain gods splashed a few sprinkles on Bangalore. The city witnessed isolated thunderstorm activity on May 2. So much so that the temperatures dropped from 37.3 degrees to 36.6 degree Celsius. Now, during the next few days, conditions are likely to remain the same. Bangalore, get ready to receive some rain

Bangalore, get ready to receive some rainBangalore weather has remained exceptionally hot for quite some time now. Temperatures have been settling well above the normal levels. So much so that during the last 30 days, Bangalore has not even once recorded its maximum below the 35-degree mark. While the city has remained mostly dry for the past one month, Pre-Monsoon showers are all set to make a prolonged appearance over Bangalore. The city did witness scattered thundershower activity on May 2. Now, until May 8, scattered thundershowers are expected over the Garden City of India. While the possibility of isolated thunderstorm activity cannot be ruled out today as well, the intensity is expected to increase by tomorrow. May 6 may also witness some rainfall activity during the latter part of the day. Usually, during the Pre-Monsoon season, convective clouds form due to the available moisture and accumulation of heat which further results in thunderstorm/thundershower activity. The life span of these convective clouds is short i.e. around two hours. Sometimes, regeneration of these clouds also takes place. Between May 5 and 7, short spells of good thundershowers with strong winds are expected over the Silicon Valley of India. By May 9, the intensity of these rains will reduce. However, on and off Pre-Monsoon rains with a few gaps in between will continue throughout the month of May. Image Credit: grabhouse.com

So much so that minimums in Bangalore have also been settling about 2 to 3 degrees above the normal levels. However, pre-Monsoon rain has commenced in Bangalore and according to Skymet weather these rains will continue of another couple of days. Wind discontinuity is present from Vidarbha to Comorin area across Interior Karnataka that is giving rain over Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka. Since pre-Monsoon showers usually occur during late afternoon and evening, they will not be instrumental in bringing down the maximum temperature to an extent. Yet, marginal drop in night temperature is likely due to rainfall activity. Pleasant evening/morning is most likely in the city till the weekend as patchy rain will prevail in most parts of Bangalore. Image Credit: betterphotography.in

Published at 10:00 AM: Bangalore weather remained dry and hot throughout the month of April. So much so that the maximums remained above the normal levels throughout the month. However, the beginning of the month of May has been nothing but good news for the Bangaloreans. The city has been observing on and off light thunderstorm activity during the first few days of May. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday while Bangalore recorded 2 mm of rain, 1.5 mm rainfall was also observed at the Bangalore Airport. As compared to the month of April, temperatures have witnessed a drop. Presently, the maximum temperature in the silicon city of India is only two notches above the average levels settling at 35.5 degrees. Also, the maximum in Bangalore Airport has been recorded at 34.7 degree Celsius. These rains can be attributed to the wind discontinuity which is currently seen across Interior Karnataka. This semi-permanent Pre-Monsoon feature will continue to persist over South Interior Karnataka with slight oscillation. Now, during the next four to five days, patchy rain will continue over Bangalore. The intensity and spread will be more today and on May 7. Thunderstorm activity will reduce over Bangalore between May 8 and 10. However, few areas are likely to witness some thunderstorm activity. After that, thunderstorm activity is expected to pick up once again around May 13 after a gap of two days. Thus, it is safe to say that May will not be as sizzling as April happened to be.
