Featured - Bangalore

Inside - Bangalore Continuous Monsoon rain has been going on over the city of Bangalore since June 5. It was only on June 17, weather remained slightly dry. Though rain intensity over Bangalore has not been very impressive only light to moderate showers are going on. Even with light to moderate rains, the silicon city has surpassed its monthly average and doubled it. But we don’t expect a significant increase in the rain intensity over Bangalore in next few days. In the meantime Bangalore will witness on and off showers and will continue to do so. There may be a marginal increase in rain intensity around June 27-28, but thereafter subdued rainfall activity will continue. Rainy weekend ahead for Bangalore

Rainy weekend ahead for BangaloreSouthwest Monsoon made an onset over the city in the beginning of June. Thus, Bangalore rains displayed a splendid performance during the month of June. So much so that the city received more than double its monthly normal rains. While the monthly normal rains for Bangalore is 89.1 mm in June, the city recorded a whopping 192.1 mm of rainfall. However, the month of July has not been good enough for the city in terms of rain. In fact, almost half the month has passed by and Bangalore has only managed to record 7 mm of rain. For the past few days, only traces of rain has been received in the city. The monthly average rain for Bangalore stands at 108.9 mm in July, which means Bangalore still needs to receive 101 mm of rainfall in 16 days to reach the monthly target. Last July, Bangalore received 94.1 mm of rain and wasn’t able to reach its monthly rains. Now, good rains are likely over the silicon city around the weekend. A cyclonic circulation is developing in Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast which is why Bangalore will receive rain between July 16 and 18. While these rains may not be enough for the city to surpass its monthly rains, it surely will bring down the temperatures. Good Monsoon rains return to Bangalore

Good Monsoon rains return to BangaloreThe month of June was exceptionally good for Bangalore in terms of Monsoon rains. The Silicon City received double the amount of Monsoon rains than its monthly average rainfall for June. However, July hasn’t even displayed half the performance than what was witnessed in June. In fact, during the entire month, Bangalore has only witnessed rainfall in single digits. Barring one day, which is on July 16 when 11 mm of rain was recorded, good showers have not visited Bangalore. However, rain Gods have finally bestowed some kindness on Bangalore and good rains have been recorded over the city. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, a good 23 mm of rainfall has been received. Now, Bangalore is expected to receive on and off rains throughout the weekend. In fact, rainfall intensity is expected to increase over the capital city of Karnataka around July 24 and 25.
So far, Bangalore has only received 43 mm of rain which is way less than what was recorded last month. While the monthly average rainfall for Bangalore during the month of July stands at 108.9 mm, it does seem like a daunting target for the city to reach the above-mentioned figures. Last year also, Bangalore had recorded 94.1 mm of rain in July, which is less than its monthly rainfall figures.  Hopefully, the upcoming rainy spell may be able to help Bangalore to at least get closer to its monthly rains. Highest rains in July for Bangalore in seven years

Highest rains in July for Bangalore in seven yearsBangalore rains were displaying a poor performance during the month of July. Barring a few occasions, the city had not recorded heavy rains at all. In fact, it seemed like the city had been missing its rainy charm. However, tides took a fortunate turn and Bangalore rains returned. For the past three days, the city has been receiving good Monsoon rains. In fact, during the last 72 hours, the silicon city has recorded a good 96 mm of rain. A good 38 mm of rain has been received during the last 24 hours itself. For once, it looked difficult for Bangalore to be able to achieve its monthly rainfall target. However, these three days of rains have not only helped the city in surpassing its monthly rainfall of 108.9 mm, but it has also let Bangalore record the highest rainfall in the month of July during the last seven years. So far Bangalore has recorded 155.7 mm of rainfall and with two more days to go, the city may easily be able to surpass 200 mm rainfall as well. The last time such good rains were received in July was in the year 2008 when Bangalore had recorded 283.4 mm rainfall. Good rains are expected to continue over Bangalore for another 48 hours. These rains can be attributed to the trough which is running from Central India up to Interior Tamil Nadu across South Interior Karnataka. However, after 24 hours, rain intensity is expected to reduce as the trough will shift eastwards. Heavy Monsoon rains lash Bangalore for fourth consecutive day

Heavy Monsoon rains lash Bangalore for fourth consecutive dayBangalore rains are in full swing as heavy rain saga continues over the silicon city. Heavy rains began on July 26 and continue till date only increasing in intensity. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Bangalore recorded a whopping 41.8 mm of rain. In a span of four days, Bangalore has recorded over 135 mm of rainfall, which happens to be about 30 mm more than its monthly rainfall in July. However, rainfall intensity and spread both have been more during the last 24 hours. Bangalore Airport has recorded a whopping 71 mm of rain, which means widespread rainfall has occurred over the silicon city during the last 24 hours. In fact, temperatures have also witnessed a drop and are settling close to the normal levels. Not only this, residents complained of traffic woes as many areas were waterlogged. These heavy and prolonged spell of rains can be attributed to a trough which is running from Central India up to Tamil Nadu across South Interior Karnataka. Rainfall activity was enhanced due to Bangalore being in close proximity of this weather feature. So far, Bangalore has recorded 195.7 mm of rain against its monthly average rains of 108.9 mm of rain. Good rains are expected to continue lashing Bangalore for another 24 hours. However, intensity is expected to reduce thereafter, as the trough is expected to shift in an eastward direction. Bangalore Rains 2

Bangalore Rains 1 The incessant Bangalore rains have finally taken a break from its heavy downpour and this break is likely to be there for the foreseeable future.  As of now the city will continue to receive light to moderate rain with few heavy spells. This activity is expected to decrease gradually. As far as the weather system that was giving good rains over the city has moved away to north. The cyclonic circulation which was over Rayalaseema and adjoining areas has now moved away and now seen close to Telangana and adjoining Karnataka. Due to the cyclonic circulation, the rainfall activity over South Karnataka and Bangalore was vigorous since the past 4 days. The city received a whopping 135 mm of rainfall. But as of now the weather system is losing its intensity the rainfall activity over Bangalore has decreased significantly. In the last 24 hours, the city has received 2 mm of rainfall. However rain and thundershower will occur across the city and a rise in temp is also expected. As of now the city is rainfall excess by 113%. Image Credit: Instagram

Bangalore Rains

Bangalore RainsBangalore has witnessed a mixed spell of Monsoon season this year. The month of June as well as July were rainy enough for the city. So much so that the silicon city even recorded heavy showers on several occasions. The best part was that by the end of July, Bangalore was witnessing a rainfall surplus of a whopping 113 percent. However, the month of August has only brought bad news for Bangalore as far as rains are concerned. The silicon city has remained practically dry since the beginning of August. Only traces of rainfall has been recorded over the city and that too on just a couple of occasions. However, rain gods have shown a slight kindness over the city and scattered light showers have been observed over some parts.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Bangalore observatory recorded 6.4 mm of rain. Also, 0.8 mm rainfall was recorded over Bangalore Airport. These rains can be attributed to a feeble trough which developed over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining parts of South Interior Karnataka. However, the city will once again witness dry weather conditions and chances of good showers are ruled out from the city. Even now, Bangalore continues to remain excess by 67 percent. However, this rainfall surplus will reduce significantly as no rains are in sight. Image Credit: hindu.com Any information picked from here must be attributed to skymetweather.com

Bangalore Rains

Bangalore Rains Bangalore has seen a mixed spell of Monsoon this year. The month of June as well as July was showery enough for the city so much so that some areas of the city even recorded heavy showers. Nevertheless, the month of August has only brought bad news for Bangalore. The silicon city has remained practically dry since the beginning of August. Only traces of rainfall have been observed over the city and that too on just a couple of occasions. Meanwhile from past 4 to 5 days, isolated light rains have been recorded over few parts of the city. Where most parts of Interior Karnataka remained dry, light to moderate showers were witnessed over Karnataka coast and adjoining South Interior Karnataka including Bangalore.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, both the observatories in Bangalore recorded 8 mm of rainfall. Further, we expect light patchy rains to occur in some parts of the city for next 48 hours. Thereafter, once again the city will witness dry weather conditions. As of now, there is no significant weather system which can induce any rain activity over interior parts of Karnataka. Hence subdued rains will continue over the region. Despite light Monsoon rains, Bangalore fails to surpass monthly mean

Despite light Monsoon rains, Bangalore fails to surpass monthly meanBangalore has been receiving very light to light for the past few days. In fact, since August 13 there hasn’t been one day when the silicon city has remained completely dry. However, these rains have been patchy in nature and the intensity hasn’t even been moderate at all. During the last 24 hours, the capital city of Karnataka has recorded a few moderate rainy spells. Bangalore recorded 15 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday. These rains have also resulted in cool weather conditions over the city.
So far, Bangalore has received a mere 49.6 mm of rain against its monthly average of 142.5 mm. Thus, Bangalore has until now only received about one-third rain in August as compared to its monthly mean. Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, the city will receive light to moderate rains. These rains will be attributed to the low pressure which is currently over west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast. However, these rains will not be able to help Bangalore to surpass its monthly rains. In fact, chances are that Bangalore may not be able to record a three digit rainfall figure in August. The only good news is that in the coming days, weather conditions will continue to remain cool. Bangalore receives rain after prolonged dry spell

Bangalore receives rain after prolonged dry spellBangalore rains had displayed a power packed performance during the months of June and July. In fact, rains were in the surplus category during both of these months. However, Monsoon rains took a backseat in the month of August. In fact, the capital city of Karnataka was only able to receive 85 mm of rains against its monthly mean of 142.5 mm in August. The month of September brought some more bad news for the residents of Bangalore. In fact, rains remained far and few from the garden city.
However, rain gods have bestowed some kindness over the residents and light to moderate rains were recorded over the city. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Bangalore Airport recorded a good 13 mm of rainfall. The city recorded light spells of 1.4 mm. These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which has developed in the west-central Bay and is currently stationed over the Odisha coast. Moisture incursion has increased over the region due to this weather system. During the next 24 hours, light Monsoon rains may occur over the city as the weather system is expected to persist. So far, ten days have passed by and the city has not even been able to come slightly closer to its monthly mean.
